There’s no shortage of taco options in present-day Nashville, especially now that three new taco options have emerged (or will, soon) this August. Nashville has made a lot of strides in the last few years — like the exciting Mexican pop-up moment that uplifted the city after her devastating year that included the pandemic, tornado, and a bomb. But a lengthy stretch of Nolensville Pike has long been a destination for tacos loaded up with lengua. tripa, and chorizo — be sure to remember to visit the walk-up windows and small shops lining the South Nashville street after visiting these shiny new options in the city.
Condado Tacos
Columbus-based taco chain Condado Tacos, a fast-casual build-your-own taco joint, is opening its first Tennessee location on August 19 in the Capitol View development (look for a Franklin location later in the year.) Located at the corner of 11th Avenue North and Nelson Merry Street, Condado offers outside-the-box taco fillings like Korean barbecue, pulled jackfruit, and Thai chili tofu alongside more expected chorizo, pulled pork, and roasted chicken. Tacos range in price from $3.85 to $5.50 and can be loaded with the dealer’s choice of proteins, toppings, and sauces. Taco shell choices include double-deckers in flavors like “kewl” ranch and “firecracker”. There’s also queso blanco and a full bar with a large tequila selection. Condado works with local artists in each location to paint the walls of each restaurant with floor-to-ceiling murals. For its Nashville debut, the theme is “Music, Margs and Mischief.” Local artists depicted iconic Nashville landmarks with a twist including the Athena statue and Opryland fountains as well as honoring Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. Condado Nashville will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. 418 11th Avenue North
Tacos 1989
The former home of now-closed Detroit-inspired Night Train Pizza in the Gulch welcomed Tacos 1989 in early August. One street taco runs $3.89 here and can be loaded up with meats like pastor, chorizo, suadero, barbacoa, and more. Burritos, quesadillas, and nachos are also on offer. Furthermore, find menu gems like ceviche, handmade shrimp empanadas, chiludos (bacon-wrapped peppers stuffed with cheese and shrimp), octopus, and aguas frescas. 600 9th Avenue South, Suite 100, Nashville
Tomacco Tacos + Tequila
Opening in late August, Tomacco Tacos + Tequila is bringing California-style street tacos, burritos, and a full-service bar pouring agave flights, horchata bushwhackers, and tequila and rum cocktails aplenty to Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood. Owned by Jessie Husmann of Tacos Aurora inside Hunters Station, the chef plans to expand the menu in her second restaurant opening, fast-casual Tomacco Taco. The full menu isn’t online just yet, but look for, of course, tacos, alongside piled high nachos and a rainbow of sauces. Also of note, there’s an Insta-worthy custom Dolly mural from local artist, Becca Wildsmith, and a large outdoor patio for cooler days ahead.
