MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Inventors, artists and the greatest minds of business all have one thing in common: the ability to see potential where others don’t. It is this gift that allows and often compels them to venture out and take the next step that others wouldn’t anticipate. Where others would simply see a block of marble, Michelangelo could perceive the statue within. The way that we see the world determines the future that we are going to build.

“Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” – Michelangelo

THE NORTH GULCH

What we now know as the North Gulch is a place with a history and a future. In the 1870’s, it was known as Hell’s Half Acre—home to European immigrants, pistol fights, and saloons. In the early 1900s, many former slaves made their homes there, struggling to make a new life for themselves and creating a new story for future generations. By the 1950’s, sections of the urban core saw the development of new parks and streets, painting a more optimistic picture of things to come, while other areas remained under-developed.

It was this parcel of land, within the shadow of the Capitol, that caught the eye of Boyle Nashville. They didn’t just see the cluster of light industrial and vacant buildings. They could see what was just beneath the surface yearning to break through. They had the vision of a genuine community, pulsing with life and activity that was rooted in the rich history of the Gulch, but looking towards a new and brighter future. They had a different view of this place and that vision has given birth to Capitol View.
